Landfill remediation
Land remediation occuring at Highfield landfill.
About 660,000 cubic metres of waste was removed from old landfills in Highfield and Ogden. Cleaning up these landfills opens the areas up to new land uses and potential redevelopment.

Scope of work
Highfield Landfill
- Removal of landfill waste under and adjacent to the Green Line route was required to ensure stable ground under the LRT line.
- Reconstructed Highfield Boulevard S.E. between the Green Line route and 12 Street S.E.
- Built the Highfield multi-use pathway and retaining wall.
- Moved several deep and shallow utilities that served the area and the former landfill. Removing these obstructions before main construction reduced project risk and timelines.
Ogden Landfill
- Removal of landfill waste under and adjacent to the Green Line route was required to ensure stable ground under the LRT line.
- Built up an LRT embankment with clean material.
- Completed the Ogden storm pond project to eliminate impacts to the pond during construction.
- Removed a concrete storm sewer and manholes in the Green Line route. Removing these obstructions before main construction reduced project risk and timelines.
Remediation of landfills in Highfield and Odgen allow for new land use opportunities. 600,000 metres cubed of waste removed and 45,000 metres squared of land remediated.
