Adoption information
The City of Calgary works with pet adoption agencies to help increase animal welfare in Calgary. Our partnerships help more animals find their forever homes faster.
The City of Calgary’s Animal Services provides pre-adoption services like medical and dental care, vaccinations (including rabies), and spaying/neutering animals before being transferred to partner agencies for adoption.
Injured, sick, feral or stray animals brought to Animal Services are cared for by the animal care and clinic team, including the veterinarians at The City. Once adoptability is determined, and the animals have recovered from their surgery and medical care, they will be transferred to Calgary Humane Society programs for adoption into new homes.
These partnerships benefit The City, adoption partners and the animals themselves: working together reduces the pressure on all agencies and ensures that animals are adopted faster.
Anyone interested in adopting a pet is encouraged to check out the adoptable animals on Calgary.ca/pets and at the links below.
