Compassionate Property Tax Penalty Relief Program
Through the Dorothy Motherwell Compassionate Property Tax Penalty Relief Program property owners unable to pay their property tax by the June 30 deadline, due to a significant life event, may apply to cancel, reduce, or refund property tax penalties. The program will consider all eligible applicants who meet the program criteria. The program will relieve a maximum of three (3) consecutive tax penalties. The tax levy will not be adjusted.
This Compassionate Property Tax Penalty Relief program is for residential property owners only and qualification requirements include:
- Applicant must be a resident of Calgary.
- The property owner must reside at the property.
- Applicant must be primary beneficiary of tax penalty relief (or agent/advocate).
- The significant life issue must have occurred within 60 days prior to property tax due date.
Important: Financial tax assistance is not provided by this program. Property owners, who apply for this program support, are responsible for paying their property tax bill. Criteria: Significant life issue and immediate family member
This program is specifically for property owners and/or their immediate family member who due to a significant life issue are unable to pay their property tax bill by the June 30 deadline and as a result have incurred tax penalties.
A significant life issue is defined as a death or a critical illness diagnosis impacting the property owner or an immediate family member. The significant life issue must have occurred within 60 days prior to property tax due date.
