Development – from application to shovel ready, how long will it take?


Residential home
​City of Calgary approval to begin construction on a new residential home will take approximately 2 to 3 months. This process may require multiple approvals, please see new house construction​ for more information.​

Multi-residential building
​City of Calgary approval to begin construction on a new multi-residential building will take an average of 8 to 10 months. This process will include multiple approvals. For more information please contact our Planning Services Centre.

Mixed use building
City of Calgary approval to begin construction on a new mixed use building will take an average of 13 to 14 months. This process will include multiple approvals. For more information please contact our Planning Services Centre.​

Commercial building
City of Calgary approval to begin construction on a new commercial building will take an average of 7 to 8 months. This process will include multiple approvals. For more information please contact our Planning Services Centre.​

Industrial building
City of Calgary approval to begin construction on a new industrial building will take an average of 4 months. This process will include multiple approvals. For more information please contact our Planning Services Centre.​
