About Councillor Andre Chabot

Ward 10 Andre Chabot
About Andre
Like so many residents of Ward 10, Andre Chabot’s parents chose to make Calgary their home. Hearing about the benefits the great city had to offer, they packed up their children from a farming community in central Saskatchewan and headed off to make a new life in the North East part of the City of Calgary. The North East has been Andre's home ever since and the place where he and his wife chose to raise their own family.
By the age of 24, Andre had become a proficient and admired member of the construction business, working on projects that developed his keen understanding of the building trade.
Andre enjoyed the accomplishments of construction, but was eager to enhance his education when he heard about a technology program at a renowned education institution called DeVry.
DeVry’s Electronics Technology Program peaked Andre’s interest, and his determination and dedication saw a four-year program completed in two, and he graduated with honours at the top of his class. With his diverse skill set, he operated, managed and owned an electronics parts distribution business for over 18 years when he was encouraged to put those skills to work to represent the people of his community.
Andre had gained a great number of business acquaintances and colleagues over the years and they showed their support for him when he ran for council in 2005 and won in the by-election.
For a period of twelve years, Andre used his knowledge from his electronics and construction industry experience, and applied it to support, develop and protect the interests of the people of Ward 10. Always advocating for redevelopment in East Calgary, Andre championed to increase investment in public transportation infrastructure and encouraged private investments.
Andre has won the heart of the people in North-East Calgary with his dedication and enthusiasm. He is committed to job creation, a strong economic community, and is the renowned 'fiscal hawk'. He has a zest for life and leads with his heart, sharing his zeal through hockey, golf, fishing, automobile repair and helping others. Andre’s generosity and strong sense of family and many community contributions continually display his total commitment to the people.
Andre says
"My family chose to move to Calgary when I was a young man. It was a move that soon afforded me the opportunity to become a voice for the community in which we lived and I received much joy in being that voice.
"Working here and getting to know the diversity of our neighbours; playing hockey against strong and worthy opponents; all developed my growing belief that I was destined to help my fellow residents as my own family was growing.
"It was a great honour for me to be elected as Director and President of the Board for Deepak Obhrai in 1998. We worked well together and he challenged me to test boundaries and overcome obstacles as we forged ahead with common humanitarian goals.
"That sense of breaking the glass ceiling has been with me throughout my service to the people especially when I served on the Marlborough Park Community Association Board; and when I was first elected as city Alderman in 2005.
"Connecting with the good people of this community is the focus of my daily attention and addressing the need to overcome social injustice are critical goals of mine. Through the development of local recreational facilities and focusing on the delivery of improvements to the area while protecting the environment creates mutual understanding and a bedrock for success.
"Community association members and the residents know that as their representative, I will ensure that Ward 10 continues to forge ahead and I will endeavour to mold strong foundations for the people and stand up for their rights.
"I will continue the work of those who believe in the defense of human rights and I have the courage to take a stand when those rights are in jeopardy.
"I will work hard to maintain and build the trust and the respect of the residents of Ward 10 and the City of Calgary."
