How do I dispose of motor oil?

Safely dispose motor oil, oil filters and motor oil containers for free at a household hazardous waste drop-off location:

  • Designated fire hall  (containers of five litres or less).
  • City landfill Throw 'n' Go (containers of more than five litres).

How do I prepare motor oil for disposal?

  • Use original containers where possible, or use a sealed, spill-proof container and make sure it is clearly labelled.
  • If you want to keep your container, you must empty your oil at a City landfill Throw 'n' Go. This option is not available at fire hall locations.
  • You can bring up to 20 litres of household chemicals per week.

Can you put motor oil in your blue, green or black cart?

No. Do not put motor oil, containers or filters in your blue, green or black carts.
