Phase 2

Construction for Phase 2 will begin in mid-May and includes a water system tie-in to the intersection of 162 Avenue and James McKevitt Road. Phase 2 will require closure of the northbound lanes on James McKevitt Road from Bridlewood Road to 162 Avenue S.W for the duration of construction. However, two-way traffic will be maintained in the west-side lanes.

Phase 2 work is anticipated to be completed by mid-June.

Phase 3

Construction for Phase 3 will also begin in early May, with improvements being made in two sections:

  • North Section (adjacent to shopping complex on Sheriff King Street): The northbound lane on Sheriff King Street between Silverado Way and 194 Avenue S.W. will be closed. Northbound traffic on the north section will be detoured west on 194 Avenue, where vehicles can turn north on Silverado Drive or Spruce Meadows Way.  Residents can still access the shopping complex parking lot via 194 Avenue. Southbound lanes on Sheriff King Street across from the shopping complex will remain open throughout construction.
  • South Section: Construction is taking place on Sheriff King Street from Belmont Boulevard to just north of 194 Avenue S.W. This will require closure of the northbound lanes on Sheriff King Street for the duration of construction. The duration of this closure will be kept to a minimum. Northbound traffic on the south section will be detoured east via Belmont Boulevard and Belmont Street to 194 Avenue S.W.  Alternate route signage will be in place while the construction crosses this roadway. Please note that the intersection at 194 Avenue S.W. will remain fully open and southbound traffic will remain unchanged on Sheriff King Street.

All work for Phase 3 is anticipated to be completed by late August.

Phase 4

Construction for Phase 4 is set to begin in early August and will require closure of all lanes on Sheriff King Street between Silverado Way and Silverado Boulevard S.W. Traffic will be detoured through the community of Silverado via Silverado Way and Silverado Drive. Accesses will be maintained for the residents on properties located east of Sheriff King Street. We anticipate Phase 4 will be completed in mid-October.

Phase 5

Construction for Phase 5 will begin in early June. These improvements will require the full closure on Sheriff King Street from Belmont Boulevard to 210 Avenue S.W., including the intersection at Sheriff King Street and 210 Avenue S.W. These improvements also require the closure of 210 Avenue between Creekside Drive and Belmont Drive S.W. Southbound traffic on Sheriff King Street will be detoured east via Belmont Boulevard S.W. in mid-June. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic will be detoured through Belmont and Creekstone, and Creekstone residents requiring to access transit can do so via Belmont Drive S.W. Construction for Phase 5 is anticipated to be completed by late July.

Additional Roadway Work on Sheriff King St. from 194 Ave to 210 Ave S.W.

Work along Sheriff King Street, from 194 Avenue to 210 Avenue SW will be completed by area developers. This work will include installation of remaining utilities and power line relocations required for completion of the ultimate roadway. This work will generally follow the feedermain installation schedule, weather permitting.

About the project

The Lower Sarcee Feedermain project is the construction of a new 6 km feedermain that will help provide safe, clean and reliable drinking water to new and existing communities in Southwest Calgary.

A feedermain is a large-diameter pipe that conveys potable water from one reservoir or pumping station to another. The size of pipe used in this project is 1050mm diameter.

The route will run along James McKevitt Road SW from 162 Avenue SW to the Southwest Calgary Ring Road corridor, east along the corridor to Sheriff King Street SW and then south along Sheriff King Street SW to 210 Avenue SW.

Project benefits
