Book a tennis/pickleball court

The public can use our tennis courts for recreation play free of charge, without having to book them.

Community and special events groups can book our courts for community events or tennis tournaments for the standard fee, additional administration fee applies. Private tennis/pickleball​ instructors (or companies), leagues and individuals, can book our courts for the standard fee.

Court types


The City of Calgary owns and operates approximately 66 outdoor tennis courts throughout Calgary. 25 of these courts have been adapted for multi-use with both tennis and pickleball capabilities.

Rental rates


Tennis/pickleball courts are free for the public to use on a first-come, first-served basis.

Individuals or groups who wish to reserve a court for private instruction, leagues or tournaments can obtain a permit for a fee.

*We'll tentatively book your Tournament/Special Event permit once we receive your application and confirm the space is available. Administration fee is due at that time. Approval for Tournaments and Events is 4 – 8 weeks. Once you receive your permit, a 25% non-refundable deposit is due. The balance is then required 30 days prior to the start of the event.

Availability & booking


Tennis/pickleball courts are free for drop-in use. There is no need to book a time. Players are limited to 30 minutes of playing time if there are people waiting.

Individuals or groups who wish to pay a fee to reserve a court for private instruction, leagues or tournaments can check for availability and book a court online.

Rules & regulations

We want everyone to enjoy their time at our Tennis/PickleBall courts. Rules and regulations help create a safe, responsible, and respectful environment for all. They apply to all users – please do your part. Failing to comply may result in a loss of privileges.

Please be reminded that all group representatives are responsible for ensuring that their members observe regulations contained on the back of the permit in addition to the following:

Do

  • All groups who book City courts must leave at least one court vacant at all locations except when booked for approved special events.
  • If a special event is approved for use of all courts at any location, the group/organizer must post visible signage at the site a minimum of one week prior to the event notifying the public that the courts will not be available for the approved date(s) and time frame(s).
  • All groups with court reservations are required to have their permit with them at all times. It is impossible to double book a tennis court. If approached by another user group or the party refuses to vacate, please contact 311 and request a bylaw officer to be dispatched. 
  • The group is responsible for any damage to the Tennis court (except normal wear and tear), and to surrounding residences, schools, cars, etc. Tennis court users are required to carry insurance and are responsible for any damage their group may cause. This may include excessive damage to the tennis courts, damage to surrounding properties (residences, schools, etc.), or vehicles.
  • Tennis court and parking areas must be left clear of garbage.
  • Tennis court users are expected to abide by all traffic laws. 
  • Please be considerate of community residents and all other park users.
  • If you are having port-a-potties placed on site, you must contact the City through 3-1-1 to arrange with the Parks department for a suitable location.

Don't

  • Parking is not permitted in private parking lots, driveways, alleys or on greenspaces. 
  • No stunting or speeding in parking lots, fields, or alleyways. 
  • Public disturbances and excessive noise, including vulgar language and honking of car horns, are prohibited.
  • No sales of food, merchandise, possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages are permitted on Playfields unless approved by Event services. For details, see the Alcohol Consumption Zero Tolerance Policy and exceptions.
  • No footwear with metal cleats allowed. 
  • Excessive noise makers are prohibited.
  • Dogs are not permitted on tennis courts or surrounding parks area. (Bylaw 23M2006 – Section 15). For their safety and the safety of others, please leave dogs at home.
  • Marking tennis courts is prohibited.

Alcohol zero tolerance policy

The City of Calgary has zero tolerance for alcohol consumption at Recreation and Parks facilities. We ask you to follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and enjoyable family environment for all.

This Zero Tolerance guideline protects users, visitors and staff from risk and/or injury. For more information, refer to The Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis Act, Section 89 (1)​.

These guidelines apply to all tennis/pickeball courts, surrounding parks, playfields and multi-purpose areas. Exceptions are noted. Otherwise the penalties for consuming alcohol at a City facility are:

Individuals Groups/Special Events:

  1. First offence – All related bookings at the facility where the offence took place will be cancelled without refund.
  2. Second offence – All related bookings at any City of Calgary facility will be cancelled without refund.

Zero tolerance policy exceptions

Alcohol may be served at City of Calgary facilities with pre-approval from The City, as follows:

  • Festivals/Events booked through Recreation with approval/license from The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) agency and paid security.
  • Private adult events booked through an Athletic Park Special Event Application Form, with proof of AGLC approval/license. Security is provided for the duration of the event at a cost of $25 per hour per security guard. Security volunteers are not permitted.
  • Concessions with an AGLC license to sell alcohol.

Third parties leasing City facilities with an AGLC license to sell alcohol for activities or events (i.e. the Tennis Academy, Volleydome Inc.).

Terms & conditions

  • The public can use City of Calgary tennis courts for recreation play free of charge, without having to book them.
  • All groups who book City courts must leave at least one court vacant at all locations except when booked for approved special events.
  • Applications may require up to eight weeks for approval.

Our rental terms and conditions apply to all tennis court users. You’ll be asked to accept them during the applications process.

Your permit must be onsite during any and all of your bookings to avoid any confusion. Your permit is proof of your rental to anyone who may need to see it.

Permits are only valid for the date, time and location specified on the reservation receipt. The City of Calgary does not post reservation notices at park or field locations. If a non-permitted user is occupying the site, the permit holder should show proof of reservation. If the non-permitted user refuses to vacate the tennis court, please contact City staff if available on site, or call 311 and request a bylaw officer to be dispatched.

The facility permit holder (applicant/renter) is expected to adhere to the Rules & regulations governing tennis courts in order to ensure both the safety of participants and the preservation of The City facility. As the permit holder, it is your responsibility to ensure that every player, team official, parent of players (for youth organizations), and spectator is aware of the conditions of use/regulations.

Tennis/Pickleball Court Special Events Application Information

  • Special Event/Tournament applications may require four to eight weeks for approval.
  • The public can use City of Calgary tennis courts for recreation play free of charge, first come, first served, without having to book them. 
    • Please note that players are limited to 30 minutes of playing time if there are people waiting to play on all City-owned courts.
  • All groups who book City courts must leave at least one court vacant at all locations except when booked for approved special event/tournament.
  • If a special event/tournament is approved for use of all courts at any location, the group/organizer must post visible signage at the site a minimum of one week prior to the event notifying the public that the courts will not be available for the approved date(s) and time frame(s).
  • All groups must carry their permit with them.
  • Dogs are not permitted in the tennis courts or surrounding parks area.
  • Report any complaints by calling 3-1-1.

Payment options

  • Payment for 5 or less dates booked is due immediately.
  • Payment for 6 or more dates booked is due 30 days prior to the first booking date.
  • Special Event/Tournament –
    • A $26.25 non-refundable administration fee is due before sending request to Parks for approval.
    • Once you receive your permit, a 25% non-refundable deposit is due
    • The balance is then required 30 days prior to the start of the event.
    • No Cancellations or Refunds once the permit has been confirmed.

Cancellations or changes

  • Please review our standard cancellation & amendment policies that apply to all bookings.
  • You can cancel or change your booking using the amendment app
  • Additional Cancellation & Amendment Notes:
  • Cancellations or amendments must be received by Facility Bookings a minimum of 30 business days in advance of the rental date​.
  • No Cancellations or Refunds once a Special Event/Tournament permit has been confirmed.
  • Booking appointments will not be re-scheduled due to Inclement weather and no refunds will be issued.
